Five Restigouche Class destroyer escorts (Gatineau, St. Croix, Restigouche, Kootenay & Terra Nova) of the 5th Canadian Escort Squadron and three Prestonian Class frigates (Buckingham, Cap de la Madelaine & Lauzon) of the 9th Canadian Escort Squadron alongside STAR from 23 to 25 August 1959 following the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway on 26 June 1959. Prior to that, the maximum size of ships that could enter the lakes was restricted to 82 metres or 269 feet by the locks of the Lachine Canal.
