STAR’s new home, building forty, was officially opened on 27 September 1997 in a ceremony with Minister of National Defence Art Eggleton, Vice-Admiral Gary Garnett, Vice-Chief of Defence Staff., and Commodore Ray A. Zuliani, Commander Naval Reserves in attendance.

A painting by Cdr (Ret’d) Bob Williamson depicting the opening ceremony for Building Forty with the Robert Hampton Gray, VC, Memorial Corsair from Canadian Warplane Heritage flying by. Unfortunately, this was the last public flight of the Corsair in Canada as it had to be sold the next year to cover the expenses of the museum.
Building Forty as first opened with the circular driveway in front. When HMCS HAIDA arrived in 2003, the area was reconfigured to accommodate a fence between HAIDA and STAR.
