The arrival of the KINGSTON class in 1996 signaled the beginning of a new era for the naval reserve. Twenty-nine years later, as we witness the paying off of eight of the twelve while four are left to “soldier” on for a year or two more, we look back to those heady days.

HMCS SHAWINIGAN was commissioned 19 June 1997 and will be paid off 3 October 2025.
