USS HAMILTON & SCOURGE Memorial

August 8 @ 19:00 20:00

Hamilton & Scourge Memorial Sunset Ceremony, Thursday August 8, 2024 at Confederation Park Naval Memorial Garden. The service runs from 7:00pm – 7:45pm.

The event marks the loss of 53 sailors who went down with two United States schooners, Hamilton & Scourge, during the War of 1812. Members of the American Legion Post 18 in Canada will form the Flag Party as part of the ceremony, which includes the story of the sinking by local historian Commander Robert Williamson, RCN (ret’d). Sea Cadets will place flags and flowers at each stone. The singing of the national anthems will be performed by tenor Jason Hales, and music will be provided by a bugler and piper.

The site can be tricky to find. Once inside Confederation Park, keep going east and watch for the Edgewater Pavilion on your left.
