Error Correction

The page Visiting Ships referred to a visit by the gunboat HERON to Hamilton in 1866 and was accompanied by a picture of HMS BRITOMART, identifying her as a sister ship of HERON. The ship pictured was however BRITOMART of the Bramble Class, commissioned forty years after HERON and the rest of the ships of the BRITOMART class, and looking nothing like her. Thanks to Bryan Kerman of Port Dover, who spotted the mistake. Bryan has been researching HERON’s sister ship, CHERUB, which helped Port Dover celebrate the first Dominion Day / Canada Day on 1 July 1867.
